Saxophone Workshop at The Manchester College, Manchester.
On 17th / 18th February 2018 – In association with The Manchester College Jazz Department, JazzSmart hosts a two day saxophone workshop, that is aimed equally at classical and jazz saxophonists, led by Andy Scott, assisted by James Rawlinson & Andrew Blee.
Building & developing ideas from the inaugural course at Manchester College in February 2017, Andy will use his vast experience of planning and directing saxophone workshops to strike a balance between using written material, using our ears, and embracing a musically open-minded philosophy. Time will be spent rehearsing as; one large group and smaller groups, with a great rhythm section joining us on the Sunday afternoon.
Options will be available in sessions 2 & 3 on the Saturday; Andy will lead a masterclass that is aimed at more classical saxophonists, you are welcome to prepare a solo piece or a quartet may play, whilst those more interested in improvisation may work with James (intermediate/advanced) & Andrew (beginner).
“James is a fantastic musician; a wonderful performer and teacher! His knowledge of improvisation and jazz, coupled with his teaching experience, means that we may offer you options throughout the weekend. Andrew studied with James & then went on to complete a degree in Jazz Studies at the University of Chichester. JazzSmart is directed by James & Andrew, and I’m delighted to collaborate with them both!” Andy Scott
In Autumn 2017 Andy presented saxophone workshops in Hong Kong, Macau, Norway, Holland and the UK, bringing his vast experience as a saxophonist, composer and educator to the table, and is delighted that Selmer Paris Saxophones, Vandoren UK & Astute Music are sponsoring this event.
“Developing the February Saxophone Weekend in Manchester in conjunction with Andrew Blee & James Rawlinson at JazzSmart, and Manchester College, is a pleasure! The venue is only a couple of minutes walk from Piccadilly Station, with good cafes and restaurants nearby.
A great way to start the year, maybe treat this course as a saxophonic MOT, setting you up musically for 2018!”
Andy Scott
