Pop Saxophone Workshop

Derek Nash, sax man extraordinaire with Jools Holland, is coming to JazzSmart on 6th / 7th October 2018. Derek will be running a two day pop / jazz saxophone and rhythm and blues workshop, with sessions on improvisation and chart reading. This is a  fantastic opportunity for sax players to work with one of the UK’s top saxophonists, leader of the award-winning Sax Appeal and featured member of the Jools Holland Rhythm and Blues Orchestra. Derek has run two previous workshops for us and we always really look forward to seeing him. He’s a really lovely chap!

Derek Nash is “one of the most versatile saxophonists in the UK today

(The Guardian), and always impresses with his moving, energetic and soulful performances no matter whether it’s on the baby soprano to the huge sound of his baritone playing. Winner of the John Dankworth and British Jazz Awards, Best Jazz CD award, and was nominated for Jazz Musician of the Year by the Global Music Foundation. Derek also keeps very busy playing with the Jools Holland Rhythm and Blues Orchestra, is a featured soloist and has played at places such as the Cardiff Millennium Stadium and Glastonbury Festival.

His collaborations include (among others) Eric Clapton, Amy Winehouse, Annie Lennox and David Sanborn.

Derek will help you demystify the saxophone, showing you how to improve your tone and technique and how to improvise effortlessly. You only need to hear Derek play to be inspired. Regardless of genre; pop, jazz, rhythm & blues, funk, Derek does it all seamlessly and with great charisma.  In demand and popular, Derek will give you the skills to sound like a pro and tell you what you need to know to work in the real world of music.
