Andy Scott Manchester Saxophone Workshop, 15th and 16th February 2020
The Manchester College, 42 Chorlton St, Manchester M1 3HW
On 15th and 16th February 2020 – In association with The Manchester College Jazz Department, JazzSmart hosts a two day saxophone workshop, that is aimed equally at classical and jazz saxophonists, led by Andy Scott, assisted by James Rawlinson & Andrew Blee.
Building & developing ideas from the previous three years at The Manchester College, Andy will use his vast experience of planning and directing saxophone workshops to strike a balance between using written material, using our ears, and embracing a musically open-minded philosophy. Time will be spent rehearsing as; one large group and smaller groups, with a great rhythm section joining us on the Sunday afternoon.
Options will be available in sessions 2 & 3 on the Saturday; Andy will lead a masterclass that is aimed at more classical saxophonists, you are welcome to prepare a solo piece or a quartet may play, whilst those more interested in improvisation may work with James (intermediate/advanced) & Andrew (beginner).
“James is a fantastic musician; a wonderful performer and teacher! His knowledge of improvisation and jazz, coupled with his teaching experience, means that we may offer you options throughout the weekend. Andrew studied with James & then went on to complete a degree in Jazz Studies at the University of Chichester. JazzSmart is directed by James & Andrew, and I’m delighted to collaborate with them both!”
2020 sees Andy touring with the Apollo Saxophone Quartet & the Super Big Tramp Band, launching three new CDs of his music in collaboration with US Grammy-winner Tim McAllister, Portugese saxophone virtuoso João Pedro Silva and Supertramp sax star John Helliwell. In addition Andy is writing new ensemble music that will be premiered at this weekends JazzSmart Workshop in Manchester, and is delighted that Selmer Paris Saxophones, Vandoren UK & Astute Music are sponsoring this event.
“Developing the February Saxophone Weekend in Manchester in conjunction with Andrew Blee & James Rawlinson at JazzSmart, and Manchester College, is a pleasure! The venue is only a couple of minutes walk from Piccadilly Station, with good cafes and restaurants nearby.
A great way to start the year, maybe treat this course as a saxophonic MOT, setting you up musically for 2020!”
The cost for the two days including tea, coffee and cold refreshments is £130. Questions? Then send them to us via our contact form and we’ll be happy to help!
