Samba & Rhythm Workshops

We believe samba & rhythm workshops are a brilliant way of allowing people to come together and create music. Weather it’s for an existing band, a school, or a corporate team building exercise we know you will have a lot of fun! An accessible way for people to come together and create great music. Learn about infectious Afro-Brazilian rhythms using instruments and your own bodies.

Existing Bands – We have many requests from existing bands wanting to encourage their musicians to do something different musically, often co-existing with the idea of socially getting together and having some fun.

Corporate Events – Want to improve the productivity of your staff? Then run a samba workshop. It’s been tried and tested – have your staff come together on a samba and rhythm workshop to encourage team building skills, letting off some steam and a great way of thanking your staff for all the hard work they do.

Schools – It speaks for itself, getting children together to make a lot of noise is a fantastic gateway to open the musical minds of the next generation. An amazing way of bringing children together of all ages and backgrounds to become their own samba band in a short time!

Interested? Then contact us to discuss the options available such as half day / full day workshops. We travel to you, we simply need the location and number of participants and can then advise you further.

Andy Scott February Saxophone Workshop

Saxophone Workshop at The Manchester College, Manchester.

On 17th / 18th February 2018 – In association with The Manchester College Jazz Department, JazzSmart hosts a two day saxophone workshop, that is aimed equally at classical and jazz saxophonists, led by Andy Scott, assisted by James Rawlinson & Andrew Blee.

Building & developing ideas from the inaugural course at Manchester College in February 2017, Andy will use his vast experience of planning and directing saxophone workshops to strike a balance between using written material, using our ears, and embracing a musically open-minded philosophy. Time will be spent rehearsing as; one large group and smaller groups, with a great rhythm section joining us on the Sunday afternoon.

Options will be available in sessions 2 & 3 on the Saturday; Andy will lead a masterclass that is aimed at more classical saxophonists, you are welcome to prepare a solo piece or a quartet may play, whilst those more interested in improvisation may work with James (intermediate/advanced) & Andrew (beginner).

“James is a fantastic musician; a wonderful performer and teacher! His knowledge of improvisation and jazz, coupled with his teaching experience, means that we may offer you options throughout the weekend. Andrew studied with James & then went on to complete a degree in Jazz Studies at the University of Chichester. JazzSmart is directed by James & Andrew, and I’m delighted to collaborate with them both!” Andy Scott

In Autumn 2017 Andy presented saxophone workshops in Hong Kong, Macau, Norway, Holland and the UK, bringing his vast experience as a saxophonist, composer and educator to the table, and is delighted that Selmer Paris Saxophones, Vandoren UK & Astute Music are sponsoring this event.

“Developing the February Saxophone Weekend in Manchester in conjunction with Andrew Blee & James Rawlinson at JazzSmart, and Manchester College, is a pleasure! The venue is only a couple of minutes walk from Piccadilly Station, with good cafes and restaurants nearby.

A great way to start the year, maybe treat this course as a saxophonic MOT, setting you up musically for 2018!”
